The last couple of days I decided to work on handknitting cable wrist warmers in Mongolian Cashmere yarn.
This type of yarn is expensive for a small amount of yarn and can be hard to work with when handknitting up. The yarn can be hard to grasp as you knit along with certain knitting needles and this task can be frustrating specially if you are a beginner.
I used double pointed bamboo knitting needles to handknit these fabulous cable wrist warmers with a thumb gusset. The bamboo knitting needles help you grasp on to the yarn with ease, since it's a very fine yarn, you also have smaller stitches that don't take up to much space on the double pointed kniting needles.
I designed these wrist warmers from a cable pattern and got my husband, Jeremy to do the calculations for me, I explained to him what I wanted, since he's not a knitter or designer, he tends to do very well on my communication level of explaining on how to create a design and put it forth on paper. Very impressive, that way it saves me time on having to do all the work for myself. It really helps to have the extra set of hands!
Normally if I have a design that comes to mind I'll go ahead and write down the pattern on paper or draw in a sketch form then create a pattern. When knitting you need to be sure you write down your pattern because it's hard later to figure out what you have designed as each stitch can be unique in it's own way. Also using various sizes of knitting needles is also a requirement of expertise considering you wouldn't want to create something with all that time put into it. I have done that in the past and have learned from there on how to decrease or increase stitches as I go.
